BIRTH CONTROL MYTHS ADDRESSED

This post is meant to address solely the issues that have been raised about the use of birth control pills or the morning after pills depending on which ever one you know it as. There have been loads of things that people-like me- have heard about them so this post is gonna try to explain and clarify some of what you've heard or maybe experienced.

Birth control pills are good-life savers in fact. They do all kinds of things like help with menstrual cramps and regulate your period. Oh and they prevent you from getting pregnant, which is a really important thing that they do. There are a lot of things to know about birth control in terms of safety. It’s a medication, so you need to talk to your doctor about what kind of birth control is best for you. Just because your friend loves her birth control doesn't mean it’s going to work with you and your body.

But there are definitely a lot of myths and ridiculous claims about birth control pills I think it’s time we separated fact from fiction here, ladies. Check out these 8 myths about birth control pills:

1} Myth: All Birth Controls Are Created Equal
So false! There are so many different kinds of birth control pills, and they are all different. What works for you might not work for someone else. You might have to try a few to find out what the best pill for you is.

2} Myth: You Can't Get Pregnant When Taking Birth Control Pills

You can in fact get pregnant while you're on birth control pills. No pill is 100% effective, even with 100% correct usage.

3} Myth: I'm On The Pill So I Don't Need Condoms

Yes, you still need condoms. Birth control pills do not protect against STDs or HIV. Not to mention, condoms help protect extra against pregnancy should your birth control pills fail.

4} Myth: The Pill Makes Your Boobs Bigger

While some women do report bigger breasts when on the pill, it's not a guarantee. Certain pills affect certain people differently so just because your friend gained two cup sizes does not mean you will. This should be good for chicks that aren't exactly "popping" in that department *winks*.

5} Myth: The Pill Makes You Gain Weight

Some women do gain weight when taking birth control pills, which could attribute to larger breasts. But there is no direct correlation between the pill and weight gain, well at least not according to science. I relate with this point it totally happened to me this way too when i was on the pill once upon a time.

6} Myth: Your Period Stops

Lighter or non-existent periods do happen for some women. But your period will likely not magically disappear when you're taking birth control pills. This point happened to me especially, my period became so erratic and didn't last for the normal 5 days.

7} Myth: Other Medications Don't Affect The Pill

Be honest with your doctor about other medications you're taking because they can in fact affect the effectiveness of your birth control pill. If your on antibiotics for example could the birth control's effectiveness so you should be careful and aware.

8} Myth: I Don't Need To Take It At The Same Time Everyday

Uh, yes you do. If you want your birth control to be as effective as possible, you need to take it at the same time every single day. And if you're on mini-pills, you definitely need to take it on time because they are time based. Set an alarm on your phone to remind you!

There!! I hope this helps :)
